But that doesn't mean you should subsist entirely on instant ramen. Instead, try making these five easy-to-make and quick snacks that won't break the bank but will still keep you well fed.
Good Ol' Mac N Cheese
Ingredients:
1 cup elbow macaroni
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup butter
1 cup milk
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
Salt and pepper to taste.
How to make it:
Boil macaroni in a saucepan, then drain and add vegetable oil to prevent sticking. In another saucepan, melt butter and mix with flour until it becomes a paste. Add milk and continue mixing until the desired consistency is achieved. Finally, stir in shredded cheese until melted throughout. Pour the boiled macaroni into the mixture and fold together until coated evenly.
Tuna Melt
Ingredients:
1 jar (6-7 ounces) of oil-packed tuna
1 tbsp minced onions
1 tbsp chopped capers
1/2 tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 tsp Asian chili paste
Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese
How to make it:
Creating the tuna salad:
Drain the oil from the canned tuna and break it into small pieces using a fork.
Stir in celery, capers, mayonnaise, onions, and Asian chili paste until everything is evenly mixed.. To taste, add salt and pepper then fold in some chunks or shredded mozzarella cheese.
Cut the french bread into slices then butter each slice on both sides. Place them on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet greased with cooking spray then bake at 350 degrees until both sides are golden brown -- usually around 10 minutes.
Once out of the oven, spread tuna salad generously over one side of each piece of toast then sprinkle cheddar cheese on top before popping back in for 5-6 minutes just long enough for the cheese to melt and Bubble up.
Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
Slices of bread
Shredded cheddar cheese
Shredded Mozzarella cheese
Butter
How to make it:
Remove the lid and spread butter on both slices of bread. Grill until slightly golden, then top one slice with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese before covering with the other slice. Place the grill or pan back over the heat, cover with a concave lid, and let cook for two minutes to melt the cheese. Flip to cook evenly on both sides and remove when all cheese has melted and bread is golden brown. Serve immediately with tomato soup or ketchup as desired.
Butter and Garlic Noodles
You'll need the following for this dish:
1 cup Store-bought spaghetti,
2 tbsp Butter, 3 cloves of garlic,
Salt and Pepper,
Grated parmesan for garnish.
How to make it:
In a saucepan, boil the spaghetti and once it has finished boiling, run it under cold water. Add a teaspoon of vegetable oil and set the spaghetti aside. In another pan, melt two tablespoons of butter and add thinly sliced garlic gloves. Fry the garlic until it is slightly golden in color then add the spaghetti to the mix. Lightly fold them in together until they are coated with butter and garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste then garnish shredded parmesan on top before serving.
Loaded Nachos
Ingredients:
1 packet Tortilla chips
1 cup of cubed or shredded chicken/beef
1/2 cup Lettuce
1/2 cup Salsa (canned or homemade)
Sour cream as a dip
