Mukbang films are essentially ASMR eating shows. Read about some of the top Mukbang youtubers here....
From the outside looking in, mukbang videos may seem like one of YouTube's weirder fads. But to those who follow these popular personalities, they provide justified entertainment through the escapism of watching someone else eat gallons worth of food. For the uninitiated, mukbang films are essentially ASMR eating shows that let viewers live vicariously through another person's gluttony - and very often come with some great restaurant recommendations.
Do not be misled, although Nikocado Avocado often pretends to be pitiful, he is one of the most troublesome Mukbang Youtubers in history. Since early 2014, when Nikocate was a slight 21-year old vegan, he has been posting food videos. He gradually became addicted to junk food and no longer believes that living veganism is good for his health.
Perry, a Mukbang pacesetter uploads new videos practically every day - and they just keep getting weirder. Perry revealed that their lifelong quest to understand their adoption is what drives them in this profession. During an interview with a collaborator, Perry said "I guess I just always need attention".
Quang Tran, a Vietnamese-born-Canadian national, has over 1.5 million followers on his YouTube channel where he's known for two things: his love of food (he always seems to be grinning from ear to ear) and the exquisite recipes he shares with viewers. You'll love seeing him scarf down fried chicken, slurp pasta, or demolish a slice of pizza.
Banzz can eat. A lot. In one sitting, he once ate 100 McDonald's Chicken Nuggets. But YouTuber Jung Man-su had a difficult year in 2019 and started using his channel to market his own range of "weight loss" foods. Banzz was punished by a district judge in Korea for misleading advertising--the prosecutors asked for 6 months of incarceration while the defense team argued that their client had no intention of defrauding spectators and that the illegally uploaded material was just a product of immaturity.
Banzz was fined 5 million ($4,100), which is a small price for someone said to be worth millions. Afterward, Banzz recorded and uploaded a sad apology video to YouTube. Since viewers can react emotionally to these types of videos, they are often very popular among users. However, Banzz then made the major mistake of removing comments he didn't agree with from his channel. This essentially created a cancel culture environment by discouraging fans and hacking/unsubscribing large numbers of viewers. Despite this blunder, the YouTuber still has enough subscribers to continue earning money from his channel.
Stephanie, a Korean-American with over 1 million followers, is relatively new to the scene. What makes her stand out is that she tells stories about conspiracy theories, suspicious deaths and scary Reddit posts while munching on platters of food. Don't be scared off by the tales - they're more entertaining than terrifying because she's an amazing storyteller!
Amberlynn Reid is usually known for being cute and adorable, but her recent "weight reduction" mukbang videos have caused some backlash. She has been doing this for the last 5 years, during which she has had 3 different companions (Destiny Era, Becky Era, and Krystal Era). In her videos, Reid tracks her calorie intake while mostly eating nutritious meals.
People are split on whether or not to cancel Reid's video diary after a Petition claiming that she is "paid nearly $1,000 each month while doing nothing except fooling her audience" surfaced on change.org. Although some believe that the money she makes from YouTube is more important to her than her health, others argue that the claims made in the Petition are false and that Reid should be able to continue sharing her story with the world. The big question is: will de-monetizing this channel Youtube help Reid regain her health for good?
So, is it really the best job in the world to be a mukbang artist on YouTube? It's admittedly a win-win scenario; not only do they get paid to eat delicious food each time they record, but also ASMR Job's consistent content! These mukbang YouTubers have managed to create successful, long-lasting businesses out of their popular videos.
