Spotify has released the annual wrapped list for 2021, which includes not only peoples' favorite artists and songs, but also who made it big this year. The more an artist is mentioned on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, the bigger they become; this list displays all of them.

The Most Successful Musicians of 2021

Some of the many artists that have either secure their place in the music industry or continue to show excellence this past year are:

  • Ed Sheeran
  • Olivia Rodrigo
  • BTS
  • Lil Nas X
  • The Kid Laroi
  • Doja Cat and so many more.

The Five Most Popular Artists

Olivia Rodrigo

When her first album Sour dropped in June, this girl quickly became famous. 320,000 chart sales made her the best selling artist of 2021 almost immediately. Her songs "Good 4 U" and "Drivers License" blew up online and became summer anthems and break-up ballads seemingly overnight.

This new artist not only landed one song in the top 40 Billboard chart, but she also managed to get three best-selling spots with "Good 4 U" and "Drivers License" holding steady at numbers two and five respectively, while "Deja Vu" stood strong at number five. Her songs have sold a minimum of 40 million copies combined.

Ed Sheeran

This ginger British artist is a musical genius, and he continues to remind us of that with his new songs that always rank high on the charts. His song "Bad Habits" was number one for over 11 weeks throughout the summer, and it's still a popular jam among many people. Other popular songs of his include "Shape of You" and "Castle on The Hill". Not only does he excel in love songs like "Perfect", but he also features other artists like rap god Eminem in some of his more upbeat tracks such as "'River". Without a doubt, this artist knows how to rock the world with his music.

The Weeknd

"Save Your Tears" and "Blinding Lights" two songs from Canadian artist The Weeknd's fourth album release last year, "After Hours" have been atop the 100 billboards. Earlier this year, a remix of "Save Your Tears" came out featuring singer Ariana Grande which could be why it has maintained its spot in the top 100.

Lil Nas X

LGBTQA icon Lil Nas X rose to fame after years of struggling in the music industry, and is now known not only for "Old Town Road" (which featured Billy Ray Cyrus),but also for hits like "That's What I Want" and "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" off his debut album.

The singer continues to spread messages of love and acceptance through their music, inspiring many and talking about taboo topics while working alongside popular artists such as Elton John, Miley Cyrus, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Dua Lipa

At BRIT's Awards this year, not only did the artist steal Album of the Year, but she walked away with Best Female Solo Artist Award as well. After her release of "New Rules," it's no surprise that the Moonlight Edition of her album "Future Nostalgia" earlier in the year was a huge success--especially after the single "Levitating" peaked at number 5 on Official Charts.

This woman is an inspiration to many girls across because she empowers them through songs about getting over breakups and becoming independent women.

Last year saw breakout successes for several artists, among them Doja Cat with her song "Kiss Me More" and BTS, who made history by becoming the first Asian act to win at the AMAs and being nominated for the Grammy twice. Tom Grennan was featured twice in the Top 40 sellers with "Little Bit Of Love" and "Let's Best-Selling Go Home Together", making him one of top music artists so far in 2021.
