Heating up your home and donning a snug cardigan aren't the only ways to change up your appearance for winter. You can also give your nails a makeover with the latest trends, from frosty tips to gleaming solid brass hues. So when you're attending all those family events this year, you'll be the best-dressed person in the room.

It's no wonder that french tip manicures are coming back into fashion--they allow for so much creativity! You can keep it simple with a white and nude color scheme or get creative with the tips of each nail, such as a double french or darker color french manicure. With so many possibilities, there's sure to be a winter nail art look that you'll love!

We're not saying that we're going to discontinue all of the trends from 2020, because frankly, we still love them and think they're worth keeping around. But, at the same time, there's something exciting about starting anew with a fresh year and new possibilities. So without further ado, here are some of our favorite predicted nail trends for 2021.

Nail Paint with a Minimalistic Design

Though they may be beautiful, gems, stones, and beads on nails are not minimalistic. 3D nail art is also becoming increasingly unpopular because it is difficult to remove. In the coming years, people will prefer simpler nail designs that are easier to manage. You don't have to give up shimmer or glamor completely, but a more delicate approach will become trendy.

If you're looking to try out a new nail style that is chic and fashionable, look no further than minimalistic nail art! Simple designs like dots or triangles are easy to create, and they make for a fun way to experiment with shapes and lines. Just be sure that your nails are all the same size and shape so that the design comes out looking its best.

One Finger Rule

You can go crazy and design all ten fingers however you want, or pick two (or three) to keep it more modest - whatever fits your vibe. Gradient colors have been big recently, but feel free to experiment with any colors or designs you want. It's always eye-catching when a couple of your nails are unexpectedly different from the rest. And forget about making your ring finger stand out - that's too predictable.

Velvety Nail Paint

Metallic nails have been trending for a while now, but there's a new twist on the look called "velvet nails". It's honestly stunning.

If you're interested in trying this style at home, there are a few different methods you can use. Some nail artists will dip their nails into flocking powder, which creates a metallic, velvety effect similar to fake snow. Others use magnetic nail liquid, also known as "cat-eye" polish.

Empty Space Nail Art

If you're considering switching up your 2020 nail designs, negative space or "empty space" nails might be the way to go. Not only do they look amazing, but they also last longer than other designs. So if you want to save some time (and money) on salon visits or at-home manicures, this is definitely the trend for you!

If you want to do a negative space design at home but don't have a steady hand, there are some ways you can still create straight lines. You can use striping tape or narrow brushes. Just make sure the striping tape is firmly in place so that the polish doesn't go under it. If you want to do a gradient fade over your natural nail, using glitter will last longer than other polishes. Make sure there isn't too much polish on the brush before softly stroking the polish over the nail to create a denser fade near the tip of your nails for this winter's latest trends!
