So many people don't realize that they actually engage with art every day. Art can be consumed in many ways, such as through movies, music, or more traditional paintings and sculptures. Since the very beginning of human civilization, art has been integral to how we communicate and express ourselves. There have been multiple studies conducted that show a correlation between art and emotional/psychological wellbeing. There is no need for a study to confirm this. It's something we experience daily and are fully aware of. The fact that art can make us feel strongly is one of the reasons we cannot live without it. Emotion is at the core of all art, and today we're going to try to put infinite Art forms into mainstream categories.
The Importance of Art
It is hard to precisely pin down what art is. Defining art has been a contentious topic for millennia, and there are countless differing opinions on its meaning. Generally speaking, though, art reflects human emotions, creativity, and imagination. We often appreciate art for the feeling it produces or how visually pleasing it is. With that in mind, let's explore some of the most popular ways art is expressed.
Painting
Have you ever tried to discuss art without bringing up paintings? After all, they are some of the oldest and most popular forms of artistic expression. Paintings have a way of drawing people in and making them reflect on what they're seeing. Some famous paintings are kept in museums or galleries, while others hang in people's homes. Some of the most widely recognized artists are Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Leonardo Da Vinci; however, interestingly enough, these painters emerged after the Renaissance. The Renaissance has been credited as being the golden age for paintings in Eurocentric history. Additionally, paintings can also include subcategories such illustrations and graphic design which are becoming more appreciated by society as technology advances.
Sculpture
Sculpture is the art of creating three-dimensional objects. Artists create their sculptures by molding and shaping existing materials such as clay, stone, ceramics, or metals. Just like painting, sculpture is one of the oldest forms of art, dating back to humans living in caves. Although ancient artists such as Michelangelo mainly used marble and bronze, contemporary sculptors have more diverse options like metals, plastics, and glass. The methods for molding and carving have also improved with time; however, some remain the same because they were perfected by our ancestors long ago.
Literature
Writing is a form of art that people often view as less important than other fields, but it takes just as much creativity to paint pictures with words as it does with physical paintings. There are many different types of writing, ranging from poetry and plays to essays and fiction. This field can also be used to critique society - something that many well-known writers have done throughout history. Many people see literature as its own form of art, but it is also one of the few art forms that can inspire adaptations in other mediums, such as plays, movies, and paintings.
Cinema
One hundred years ago, give or take, this art form was first brought into the world. In the present day, it is by far the most popular and consumed form of art. With how much humankind has progressed technologically, we are now able to project a three-dimensional image onto a two-dimensional screen. The main way movies express their craft is through stories told on film. Some famous filmmakers within this era are Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg (just to name a few).
To conclude, it would be impossible to discuss all forms of art in a short article such as this. We merely aimed to define the most common types of arts. Which one of the ones we mentioned is your favorite?
